Boulder Real Time Technologies (BRTT) has been at the forefront of enterprise-grade seismic monitoring software for over 25 years. Our flagship product, the Antelope Environmental Monitoring System, is used in very large scale seismic monitoring networks by leading research institutions, government agencies, and private companies around the world. Antelope is responsible for collecting, analyzing, and alerting on vast amounts of real-time data efficiently and reliably, supporting critical applications such as earthquake early warning systems, volcano and tsunami activity monitoring, structural health monitoring, and environmental hazard detection.

Open Positions

Principal Software Engineer

Boulder Real Time Technologies | Boulder, CO | Principal Software Engineer | C++, Python, React, AWS | Hybrid – Full-time | $170k-$200k

As a Principal Software Engineer at BRTT, you will work closely with our CTO to become an expert on all aspects of the Antelope Environmental Monitoring System including any geophysics instruction necessary to understand the algorithms. You play an active role in product development for new verticals, adding new features to the existing Antelope System, modernizing and hardening the software where needed, and charting the course to integrate and leverage cloud-based capabilities for next generation monitoring systems.

Requirements and Qualifications

  • Ten years experience writing real-time enterprise-grade software applications in C++ or similar language.

  • Experienced with Python development and other web-specific technologies for API and streaming data applications.

  • Strong Linux skills and experience building and deploying applications to AWS and GCP with a DevOps mindset, and the ability to implement automation such as CI/CD pipelines,  infrastructure as code, and test automation where warranted.

  • Experience architecting and building scalable cloud infrastructure using containerized technologies such as ECS, Kubernetes, and Docker.

  • A strong analytical mind and ability to quickly grasp scientific and architectural concepts and principles

Nice to Haves

  • Advanced degree in physical science or related field of study.
  • React and Typescript / Javascript experience with a eye for modern UI / UX
  • Experience processing and storing large quantities of real-time data
  • Scientific programming experience
  • MacOS development experience
  • Experience leading a team of software engineers and mentoring less experienced engineers as needed.
  • Pragmatic and grounded when it comes to buy versus build decisions and implementing the latest shiny framework or technology to solve a problem.
