Since our founding in 1996, BRTT has spearheaded technical innovation in the seismic community and beyond. Our software supports the collection, archiving, integration, and processing of environment sensors, particularly seismic sensors.

Who we are

Frank Vernon, Ph.D.

Chief Executive Officer, BRTT

Dr. Vernon is the CEO of Boulder Real Time Technologies after many years as a Research Geophysicist at the Institute of Geophysics and Planetary Physics, Scripps Institution of Oceanography, University of California at San Diego. Throughout his career he has developed and deployed large-scale distributed real time sensor networks in terrestrial and marine environments. The first of these systems is ANZA seismic network, which was the first fully digital telemetry network starting in 1982. The ANZA network was an early adopter of broadband seismometers and 24-bit data acquisition systems in the early 1990s. The ANZA network is the first operational network to use the Antelope software system. The next system is the High Performance Wireless Research and Education program which initiated wide area wireless IP networking for sensor networks starting in 2001. The ANZA and HPWREN experience influenced the design of the USArray Transportable Array which has deployed over 2200 stations starting in 2004 and uses Antelope for operations. Dr. Vernon has also led multiple very dense seismic nodal deployments around the San Jacinto and San Andreas fault zones.

Dr. Vernon obtained a B.A. in Physics with specialization in Earth Sciences from UCSD in 1977, and a Ph.D. in Earth Sciences from UCSD in 1989. He is author or co-author on more than 150 refereed scientific articles.

Kent Lindquist, M.B.A., Ph.D.

Chief Technology Officer / COO, BRTT

Dr. Lindquist joined Boulder Real Time Technologies in 2012 as Chief Operating Officer, transitioning in 2018 to Chief Technology Officer. After an early career in experimental atomic and
optical physics, working at the CU-Boulder Joint Institute for Laboratory Astrophysics, he led operations and development for real time monitoring systems at the Alaska Earthquake Center in the University of Alaska, Fairbanks Geophysical Institute.

In 2002, Dr. Lindquist founded Lindquist Consulting, Inc., working full-time for 10 years on real time seismic, volcano, and tsunami monitoring systems around the globe. Dr. Lindquist holds a Master’s degree in atomic and optical Physics from the University of Colorado, Boulder; a doctorate in Geophysics from the University of Alaska; and a Master’s of Business Administration from the Leeds School of Business at the University of Colorado, Boulder.

Jennifer Eakins, M.S.

Head of Customer Success / BRTT

Jennifer Eakins was hired in April 2025 to fill the new role of Head of Customer Success.  She had previously contracted with Boulder Real Time Technologies providing support services from 2006-2025.  Jennifer was also previously in charge of seismic network operations at the University of California, San Diego for multiple experiments, including the 2004-2020 Earthscope USArray Transportable Array project which involved managing the metadata and state-of-health for over 2200 seismic stations, expanding database schemas with extensions to enhance data center operations, troubleshooting problems with data quality, coordinating with field personal to ensure continued high quality dataflow, and generally coming up with solutions for any database, data acquisition, or software interoperability issues. In all, she has nearly 30 years of experience working with BRTT’s Antelope and Datascope products and excels at training new users and helping others overcome any issues with the use of BRTT’s software.
 
Ms. Eakins obtained a B.A. in Geology/Geophysics Option from the University of Colorado, Boulder in 1993 and an M.S. in Earth and Planetary Science from Washington University in St. Louis in 1996.

Colby Toland

Principal Software Engineer, BRTT

Colby Toland joined Boulder Real Time Technologies as Principal Software Engineer at the end of 2024. Colby’s past work has covered the gamut of software development included embedded software on Garmin GPS devices, desktop computer vision products, distributed mobile robotics systems, and cloud based machine learning systems. His training at Oklahoma State University focused on 1D signal analysis combined with an undergraduate research role in projective geometry for 3D computer vision.
